Thankful Tuesdays: Strawberry picking

Junior J's godmother and her sister have been in town for a visit, so we went strawberry picking together at one of the farms.  It was supposed to rain, but it turned out to be a warm, sunny day.  We spent a happy hour or so wandering amidst the strawberry field, slowly walking and searching, looking for the red berries that nestled beneath the green leaves.

As we picked the berries and chatted, it struck me how bearing fruit required a combination of factors.  The plants needed water and sunlight.  They required nutrients.  Weeding needed to be done.

And while we look mainly for the fruit, it is the leaves that make the food needed to grow those berries.  The roots, while hidden below, were the ones responsible for taking up that life-giving water from the ground.

So this week, I am thankful for the things that bring forth fruitfulness, which we tend to overlook:

:: Sunshine and rain from our Father that knows all that we need, who reminds us that we are precious to Him.

:: God's Word that brings about growth.

:: Friends and family that are like the rain, bringing refreshment to the soul.

:: Our children, who brighten up our life, and laughter, that lightens heavy hearts.

:: Gadgets and the internet that allow us to connect despite the distance.

:: Hobbies and interests that allow for moments to destress.

:: Daily provisions.  How fortunate that we do not need to worry about our next meal, or whether we have a place to rest our head at night!

What are you thankful for this week?
