Wordless Wednesday: Never alone

Occasionally there come moments that are so photo-worthy, you cannot help but snap a photo. However, sometimes, all you have is your old wonky iPhone, but to me, such moments are better captured in a blur photo, then to have no photo at all.

So this is one of those grainy iPhone shots. Baby J was fretting in the cot, and along came Lil J, who was reading his baby book. So Lil J opened the book (upside down if you notice), and told Baby J a story ("once upon a time, there was a... once upon a time"). Then Junior J came and started reading his book (as you can see, he knows how to actually flip the book with the pages facing baby J, so that he can see the images). And both were reading to the baby, and the baby stopped crying. For a few minutes that is. Enough for me to get whatever I needed to get. I must say I'm enjoying this period before the littlest is old enough to get into fights with the older two!

December Daily: A glimpse of life with 3

The boys met their baby brother yesterday morning. They are fascinated with him, and have been treating him like their new pet: patting him and poking him, and then running off to play. It has been quiet most of the day when they are not around, and I admit I'm not used to it. That being said, I am trying my best to rest and savor the quiet, before we go home and the craziness of life with 3 little kids starts. We caught a glimpse of that yesterday: Lil J happily pressing the buttons that controlled the bed, sending me zooming up and down... chasing his new dump truck (his big brother present) and echoing "BACK IT UP!" with the truck... The room was filled with the noises of boys jumping on the sofa, boys fighting, a dinosaur show running, Papa reading a book to Junior J... while the baby slept through it all. I'm not sure how it'll be, but life is most definitely not going to be quiet. Or mundane.

Wordless Wednesday: Mummified

I was cooking, and the boys were playing with Papa. They took out their doctor's bag, and the hubs started practicing his bandaging skills (for some reason he also added a toy pasta scoop to his head, and I will not post a photo of him, lest he kills me!), and decided to walk about like a zombie. Both the boys were amused. So Junior J asked to be bandaged next (pasta scoop included), and proceeded to try to scare his little brother:

And of course, the littlest (for now) also wanted to join in the fun!

A look at my... work table

Ok, so this round, we were supposed to share how our work tables looked. You know, those surfaces where you sorted your bills and did your work on, or even those that you sit down to when you reach the office.

For us, we have a lovely table in our study, but it currently isn't a work surface, since it looks like this:

Ok, it actually looks better than this now, but its still too cluttered for me to do any crafting or work on it. And right now, with what has been going on, I've not had any time to pack it (it would be a miracle if I get on top of my laundry mountain to begin with!).

So here's where we usually work everyday:

Our dining table. Which is huge (to accommodate our weekly Bible study group). It's where we have all our meals. Where the boys do their learning, drawing and doodling:

Unfortunately, #2 does not seem to understand what it means to keep his doodlings within the confines of the paper.

Its also where the hubs and I usually work on our laptops. And most days, it is a reflection of all the activity that is going on at home.

Deliveries get plonked on the far end of the table. So do books that are being read.
And toys that are being played with. And of course, you'll always need a thermometer at hand,
if you have a sick kid in the home.

I'm still hoping to clear the study table so that I can craft again, but that will take some time. Hopefully there'll be some progress before baby comes!

So how does your work or craft table look like? Snap a photo, blog about it and grab the button and link up! Or if you have Instagram, snap a photo of your table and add the hashtag "#alookatmy". And come back again on the 4th of Dec to share photos of one of the shelves you have in your home!

Wordless Wednesday: Tickets please!

So you've seen our bus... but have you seen our bus stop yet? Here it is:

Junior J helped me make the sign, and helped me with the tickets (he LOVES giving out tickets!). I just cut out two slots for the coin box, one for ticket dispensing, and the other to put "coins" in.

I thought the coin box would be a nice addition (since "the money on the bus goes cling cling cling" right?). However, all his brother wanted to do was to dig out the coins!

Wordless Wednesday: How the Apple logo came to be...

Lil J says this every single time he sees the Apple logo, be it on our laptops or iPhones:

"J bite apple! Yum yum, very nice!"

So now you know why the apple is never complete... ;)

PS: Have you taken a peek at all these wonderful fridges? There are even some on Instagram. Just check the hashtag #alookatmy to get a glimpse of them!

Wordless Wednesday: Another use for washi tape

Both boys usually carry out their notebooks when we head out. These are useful during waiting times or meal times, where they busy themselves doodling, or filling the pages with stickers. And since Junior J is quite the squirrel when it comes to picking up and keeping little findings from nature (like leaves or flowers), we've also started keeping these things inside his notebook.

Thing is, it's rather annoying to have him stuff his notebook with leaves, only to have them go flying around in the frenzy when he drops his notebook, or when the wind gets to the pages. So we've taken to carrying small rolls of washi tape (you could try winding some around a piece of card or an ice cream stick too!) which we use to secure his stuff after he picks them up. It helps to make the page look prettier too, I think!

What do you use washi tape for? (For more ideas, you can check out our Pinterest board on washi here.)

Wordless Wednesday: Dr Js are in the house

There are days when I get really tired by 5 pm in the evening. Sometimes, I'm so tired, I end up falling asleep on the sofa while watching the kids play. So the other day, while I was nodding off, I gave them their little doctor's bag, and told them Mama was sick, and could they please just give me some TLC. (I was hoping that I could just nap while pretending to be a very sick patient.)

So they did. Junior J dug out the surgical caps, donned one, placed another on his brother's head, and gave out stethoscopes. Then they took turns listening out for the baby.

The boys inherited some of Papa's surgical caps. Seems like doctors wear pretty funky ones in the OT!

Junior J was a most industrious doctor. He fed me medicine and vitamins using huge syringes, rubbed bottles of medicated oil on my tummy, gave me a pillow for my head, and Lil J proclaimed me "All better now!". I most certainly didn't get my nap, but it was fun nonetheless!

And if you're interested, here's what we put in our doctor's kit. We didn't have to buy any of those store bought plastic kiddy toys (the yellow stethoscope was a freebie from the "Doctor for a Day" programme). I was a little thankful that they had lost the bandages, otherwise I'd be a mummy of another kind!

Wordless Wednesday: Lantern making

We were busy making lanterns yesterday in preparation for Mid-autumn Festival, using our tried-and-tested formula (click here for the tutorial):

Junior J wanted a Pooh bear lantern, as he loves the bear after reading all the Milne books.
I drew the outline of the bear and balloons, and he coloured them using watercolour pencils.
He then painted them over with water, while painting the sky using watercolour paints.
He added the sun on his own!

Even Lil J got to try his hand at using watercolours, and loved it!

He decorated the back part of his lantern using washi tapes.

So here's his finished product, just waiting for a tea-light to be placed inside on Thursday:

The back view, with all the colourful washi tapes.

Front view, of good old Winnie the Pooh.

Lil J has yet to finish his lantern, but all in all, we had fun!
