Thankful Tuesdays: Me time

More than a week ago, I left the kids with my mum for a few hours in the morning and ventured out into town myself. I took a train, and didn't have to busy myself with entertaining two lil boys with stickers and crayons. I went for a quick bite when I was hungry, and had some prawns at Mos Burger, without having to grab them away from hungry little hands whose owner had a prawn allergy. Then it was a nice walk around Daiso to get some storage stuff, as well as stuff for the kids. No need to juggle a squirmy toddler who didn't want to walk but would want to inspect everything on the shelves. No multiple dashes to the toilet for small bladders. No whiny kids asking for raisins and snacks. I could actually walk down the aisles at a leisurely pace. Shopping was followed by lunch with a mummy friend, and we could actually have some grown-up conversation which was not punctuated by attempts to feed fidgety kids food. For once, I could taste my fish, and not have to scarf down my fries so that the boys didn't eat all of them.

At the end of it all, I came back, feeling more refreshed. Such outings or me-time are pretty rare, and I was just thankful to be able to get away from the home for some time, and thankful that my mum could babysit both boys.

Don't get me wrong, I love bringing both the boys out, and I love spending time with them. I was actually missing these fellows, and they were constantly on my mind. I wondered what they were up to, and if they were getting into their usual skirmishes and scrapes.

But I think God knew I needed that short break, even though it was just a trip to town to buy stuff like storage boxes. Especially when that break was followed by the boys catching two consecutive bugs that had them coughing and purging for more than a week (they are still hacking away as I write this). Me-time is rare, and a luxury in my case, but I'm thankful for those instances when it does come my way!

What about you? Do you get me-time? What are you thankful for this week?

PS: Apologies for the silence last week. With those bugs going about, it has been a most tiring time!
