Thankful Tuesdays: What playing house teaches me

We were having one of those Mondays. You know, those where the Monday blues doesn't just tail those who drag themselves to work, but also lingers about at home. It was raining, and Junior J was restless from being coped up at home most of the week. The baby was, well, just being his usual monkey self. So I threw a blanket over the baby's playpen, and told them to go have a picnic inside the "house". And they did. They busied themselves, crawling in and out.

They explored. The big boy busied himself setting up food for a picnic. The baby was busy testing the roof.

Eventually of course, the roof gave way from all that activity.

But I was reminded of a few lessons:

:: That kids don't need expensive toys to be happy.

:: That sometimes, the simplest things can give the greatest joy.

:: That we need to slow down, and look at the world through the eyes of a child. We should take time to appreciate the things that we have. The roof over our heads, the food in our tummies, the time we have together.

:: That when sometimes the world seems to collapse around us, eventually it would get straightened out again.

And I am thankful that God has blessed me with these two. I may have to teach them many things, but they too are teaching me things each day.

What are you thankful for this week?
