Thankful Tuesdays: The unexpected

I've always been a stickler for routines and lists.  I like to know what I'm in for.  I'd be the type that will plan things down to the smallest detail.  The hubby says it borders on obsession sometimes.  He, on the other hand, likes to leave things flexible, to the point that he doesn't keep track of what he needs to do and sometimes forgets or mixes up his appointments.

Suffice to say, we do get on each other's nerves sometimes.  And my need for orderliness sometimes means I don't deal with changes very well.  Like packing up and moving in less than 2 months.  And what's more, with the possibility that we may have to camp in a hotel and hunt for a place to rent, while dealing with 2 jet-lagged kids.  Plus having to find all our living essentials, since most rental apartments apparently come unfurnished... while dealing with a language barrier.  Oh my.

However, in the midst of freaking out... there has been a still small voice telling me things will be alright.  And as I read older entries on this blog, I am reminded of how God has bestowed so much grace upon us, and has seen us through so much.  Like the time we had to drive 8 hours back to Singapore with a sick kid to get him to the hospital.  Or the trip to Yunnan with a 9 month old in tow.  Perhaps all unexpected events are there to remind us that we are not in control, but God is.  If all of life is cut and dried, and easy peasy, would we still find the need to look to God?

So today, I am thankful for the unexpected.  For these show me that I really need His grace and mercy.  And these make life the roller coaster ride that it is... with the lows, and the necessary toil of climbing, that allow us to experience the highs.

I am also thankful for unexpectedness that brings a smile to my face:

:: The toddler who is extremely fussy about his protein sources, but will happily eat raw greens:

:: Surprise thoughtful presents in the mail, tied with ribbons the colour of the rainbow:

Thank you, D!  I really loved it!

:: Odd little constructions chanced upon at home:

This is Triclops.  He's a mutant Trunky who has snatched an eye from an octopus.
He's been tied up by the boy, perhaps to ensure he does not run amok!

:: Baby toys that remind me of rainbows and God's promises:

:: Random snuggle sessions with the brothers:

"We snuggle under the blanket.  Baby J is called pull-ey, and I'm called squirmy!"

:: Baby cuddliness in new clothes:

:: The bright cheery colors and myriad of shapes and textures at the playground:
